Stanmore Street Remodeling, Houston, Texas (2016-2020)
The original two-story brick house had already been remodeled in 1996. Twenty years later an addition was proposed to take full advantage of the trapezoidal site and its focal swimming pool, the latter added in 2000. Rooms in the original house were reconfigured, and the addition incorporated a larger main bedroom and bathrooms on the second floor, a dining area overlooking the pool and courtyard and an extra bedroom / study on the ground floor. The kitchen has been expanded and opened to all sides. The aim was to dilute the primacy of either the original house or its subsequent addition, establishing a natural flow and sequence between one and the other.
