North Dallas House, Dallas, Texas (2020-)
Under Construction
North Dallas is known for its retinue of large sized houses evoking grand historic styles with matching roofs. The house on Strait Lane replaces an existing low one-story dwelling that through the years had been sporadically altered to varying degrees of success. The new design retains the quiet, discreet scale of the original house and has been placed at a similar set of coordinates on the two-acre site. Emanating from these coordinates, the proposed design expands its east and west reach to create two distinct gardens / courtyards. The first one, facing east and Strait Lane, retains a beautiful set of mature trees to frame the house’s main corner entrance. The second court consists of a long pool area on axis with the main living area and its central fireplace. The primary exterior materials are a yellow-brown Norman brick, sandstone, Ipe wood, paint grip metal panels, and galvanized trellis. A wide, white oak floor throughout the interior is highlighted by key marble and stone accents.
