Carlos Jiménez presented a lecture titled “Sobre la Vivienda: una vision Estadounidense (“On Housing: A View from the United States,”),” in which he offered a critical examination of prevailing approaches to housing within the American context. He addressed the detrimental effects of car-centric urban development and the commodification of housing, arguing instead for a model of domestic architecture that prioritizes collective well-being and emotional resonance. Through case studies ranging from social housing towers in Évry, on the outskirts of Paris, to climate-responsive dwellings in Marfa, Texas, Jiménez advocated for housing that foregrounds spatial dignity, access to natural light, the use of local materials, and structural adaptability. His lecture called for a reconceptualization of housing as an architectural and social project rooted in cultural and environmental responsibility.
