"COLORES: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage, Architecture, Art, Cuisine, Music and Language"

Join the Latinos in Architecture Committee for COLORES, their fourth annual celebration of Hispanic culture, from September 27-29, 2023. The celebration features Carlos Jiménez, Principal, with Carlos Jiménez Studio; Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, Principal and Global Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at HKS; Gerardo Rosales, multidisciplinary artist and Rocio Braggiato, former Principal Dancer at the Taller Coreográfico de la UNAM, Mexico City. Performances by LD Dance Company, guitarist Javier Gonzalez and a Mariachi quartet led by Julian Corona-Medina. The three-day event will conclude with a curator-led exhibition tour of Mexican artist Tania Candiani's upcoming exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum.
Carlos Jimenez will speak to the celebration’s theme with a discussion on The Persistence of Color in Architecture. Jimenez will weave together the enduring value, meaning, and use of color in architecture. Rocio Braggiato tells her journey promoting Mexican folklore, culture and dance throughout the United States, South and Central America and Europe.
Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA will share the ways she uses her skills, interests, and passion to forge a path that addresses the inequities that she sees in the architecture profession. Gerardo Rosales, a multidisciplinary artist, will present his latest body of work which examines issues of class, race, gender, and sexuality through bold images infused with playfulness and biting humor.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Architecture Center Houston Latinos in Architecture Scholarship Program, established by the AIA Houston Latinos in Architecture Committee in 2019.
